What are paper label materials?
Paper label material is a three-layer laminate: a paper facestock, a pressure-sensitive adhesive and a release liner. The facestock carries the print; the adhesive decides where and how long the label sticks; the liner protects the adhesive until the label is die-cut and dispensed. Paper is the highest-volume label facestock worldwide because it prints well on every process, converts cleanly and costs less than film.
Choose paper when the label is applied to a dry, relatively flat surface and does not need to survive prolonged water, oil or outdoor exposure. Semi-gloss is the default barcode and logistics grade; cast-coated is for high-gloss retail print; matte woodfree is writable and natural; kraft, fluorescent and metallized are decorative variants of the same construction.

Frequently asked questions
- Is paper label material waterproof?
- Standard paper facestock is not waterproof. A varnish or laminate improves splash resistance, but for condensation, ice buckets or wash-down use a film facestock such as BOPP or PP synthetic paper.
- What is the difference between semi-gloss and cast-coated paper?
- Both are coated papers. Semi-gloss has a satin coating optimised for barcode legibility and general print. Cast-coated is calendered against a mirror drum for a high-gloss surface with sharper ink hold-out, used for premium retail labels.
- Can you supply FSC-certified paper facestock?
- Yes. Most of our paper grades are available on FSC-certified base paper; state this in your enquiry so we quote the certified stream and supply chain-of-custody documentation.
- What is the minimum order quantity for paper label material?
- One jumbo roll for any of the six stock paper facestocks listed here. Custom coatings, non-standard weights or certified paper streams start at 500 kg; both are quoted with a standard production lead time once the construction is confirmed.
- Which adhesive should I choose for paper label material?
- General-purpose permanent acrylic is the default for dry, flat surfaces. Switch to a hotmelt high-tack adhesive for rough or recycled board, a removable acrylic for temporary labelling, or a freezer-grade acrylic if the pack is applied to or stored at sub-zero temperatures.
- Can I get free samples of paper label material before I order?
- Yes. Tell us which facestock, adhesive and liner you are considering and we will send free A4 samples together with the datasheet, usually within 48 hours, so you can test print quality and adhesion before committing to a production run.
