What are specialty and security label materials?

Specialty and security label materials are pressure-sensitive constructions engineered for a single hard requirement: proving that a label has not been removed, surviving −40 °C or 200 °C, bonding to vulcanised rubber, or eliminating the release liner altogether. The facestock, adhesive and liner are specified together, because the security or environmental function only works as a complete laminate.

Security grades — holographic film, VOID polyester and destructible eggshell vinyl — are designed to fail visibly when tampered with: the label delaminates, leaves a VOID pattern, or fragments so it cannot be reapplied. Environmental grades — tire labels, freezer and cold-chain stock, and linerless thermal — solve application problems instead: low surface energy, condensation, ice, or roll-length and liner-waste limits on high-throughput lines.

Every construction below is coated and laminated in our own plant, so face, adhesive and liner can be recombined to suit your printing process and applicator. Send the surface, the temperature range and the print method, and we will shortlist two or three specialty label materials and ship samples for validation.

  • Asset tags and non-transferable security labels
  • Tire and rubber component identification
  • Frozen food, vaccine and cold-chain packaging
  • High-volume retail and logistics linerless printing

Frequently asked questions

What is a tamper-evident label material?
A tamper-evident label material is a laminate engineered to be destroyed by removal. VOID polyester leaves a permanent VOID pattern on the surface and the label, while destructible eggshell vinyl fragments into pieces that cannot be reapplied, so any interference is visible without inspection tools.
Which security label material is hardest to counterfeit?
Custom holographic film. A bespoke hologram origination is unique to your brand and cannot be sourced on the open market, and it can be combined with a VOID release layer, serialisation or a UV-fluorescent varnish for layered anti-counterfeit protection.
Which specialty label material works on frozen packaging?
A freezer and cold-chain construction: a film or protected-thermal facestock with a deep-freeze acrylic adhesive that applies down to −40 °C and holds through condensation, defrost cycles and ice crystal formation.
Why do tire labels need a dedicated material?
Vulcanised rubber is a low surface energy, oily and heavily textured substrate. Tire label material combines a conformable facestock with a very high tack rubber-based adhesive so the label wets out the tread shoulder and survives storage from −20 °C to 120 °C.
What is linerless label material and what does it save?
Linerless label material is thermal stock with a silicone top coat instead of a release liner. It removes liner waste entirely and fits roughly 40% more labels on the same roll diameter, cutting roll changes on high-throughput logistics and retail lines.
What is the MOQ for specialty and security label materials?
One jumbo roll for stock constructions such as freezer, linerless or standard VOID. Custom security laminates — bespoke holograms, serialisation or destructible eggshell variants — start at 500 kg with a longer lead time for origination and approval.
Which liner is used on VOID and destructible security labels?
VOID polyester and destructible eggshell constructions use a specially engineered release layer, not a standard liner, so the facestock delaminates or fragments on removal rather than lifting cleanly. This release behaviour is built into the laminate and cannot be substituted with a generic liner.
Can I get samples of security label material before approving artwork?
Yes. We supply free test samples of VOID, holographic and destructible constructions, plus the datasheet, so your security or brand-protection team can validate the tamper effect and hologram appearance before committing to origination and a production run.
