Thermal eco label material is an economy direct thermal paper of about 75–80 gsm supplied without a protective top-coat. Removing that layer lowers cost per roll while still printing ribbon-free, so it fits labels that are generated in very large numbers, scanned quickly and then thrown away with the packaging.

It is the standard pick for e-commerce shipping labels, warehouse pick and put-away tickets, courier waybills and internal routing labels, and converters supply it in high-volume slit rolls for desktop and industrial printers.

Because there is no top-coat, the image is more sensitive to heat, light, moisture, oils and plasticisers, and printheads see more wear than with coated grades.
