What is PET label material?
PET (polyester) label film is the most thermally and chemically robust common label facestock. It holds its dimensions from -40 °C up to about 150 °C, resists most solvents, oils and cleaning agents, and does not stretch during die-cutting — which is why it is chosen for rating plates, warning labels and durable asset tags.
It is supplied white, clear, matte and silver, in 23–50 µm. Thin PET (23–25 µm) is common for electronics and small devices; 50 µm gives a more substantial, stiffer label. Combined with a high-performance acrylic adhesive it forms the standard durable-label construction for industrial and automotive use.

Frequently asked questions
- What ribbon should I use to print PET labels?
- A full-resin thermal transfer ribbon. Wax and wax/resin ribbons do not anchor to polyester and will scratch off.
- How high a temperature can PET labels take?
- The film handles continuous exposure to about 150 °C. The adhesive is usually the limiting factor — specify the high-temperature acrylic if the label sees sustained heat.
- Is PET film available with a matte, writable surface?
- Yes. Matte PET accepts pen and marker as well as thermal transfer, and is common on calibration and inspection labels.
