Glassine vs PET release liner
The liner rarely appears on a finished label, yet it decides die-cutting accuracy, dispensing speed and how many web breaks a converter sees per shift. Choosing it after the facestock and adhesive is how avoidable line stoppages get built into a specification.

Choose Glassine paper liner when

Frequently asked questions
- Does a PET liner improve label quality, or only converting?
- Mainly converting and application. The finished label looks the same, but tighter die-cutting control and stable register reduce reject rates on small or intricate shapes.
- Can I switch liners without changing the facestock or adhesive?
- In most cases yes, provided the release value is matched to the adhesive. Ask for the specific release level rather than just the liner type, because release is what determines dispensing behaviour.
- Which liner is better for recycling?
- Neither is universally better. Silicone-coated paper and PET both need dedicated collection. What matters is which stream your site or your customer can actually access; linerless is worth evaluating where no collection exists.
- Is glassine strong enough for print-and-apply?
- Often, at moderate speeds and with generous peel plate radii. As line speed and peel angle increase, PET becomes the more reliable option.
