PP synthetic paper vs PE film label material
Both are polyolefin facestocks and both survive moisture, so specifications often treat them as interchangeable. They behave very differently on the pack: stiffness is the deciding property, and it is the one most often left out of a brief.

- Will a PP label crack on a squeeze bottle?
- It can lift at the edges or crease along the squeeze zone, especially in cold conditions. For repeated deformation, PE or a thin conformable BOPP is the safer construction.
- Which facestock is better for mono-material recycling?
- Match the facestock polymer to the container polymer: PP synthetic paper on PP packs, PE film on PE packs. Combined with a wash-off or recycling-compatible adhesive, this keeps the pack in a single stream.
- Can both take thermal transfer printing?
- Both can with a resin or resin-wax ribbon and the correct top coat. PP synthetic paper is the more common choice because its stiffness feeds reliably through print-and-apply equipment.
- How do I decide without ordering both?
- Squeeze the empty container. If it deforms noticeably in normal use, start with PE. If it holds its shape, start with PP — then validate with samples applied to the filled pack.
Once the construction is decided, both options can be quoted as self-adhesive label stock rolls for slitting and rewinding in your own plant.
